How Long Do Retaining Walls Last in the Desert?
A properly engineered and drained retaining wall can last for decades, and the material choice matters less to longevity than the base, the drainage, and the compaction of the backfill. What shortens a wall's life is almost never the visible face aging out, it is water pressure that was never relieved, a footing that was not founded on stable ground, or backfill that was dumped rather than compacted in lifts.
